The UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) is an international research, capacity-building and documentation institute
based in Hamburg (Germany), with a multicultural staff (35 from 18 countries), and is currently recruiting its future:
DIRECTOR

Under the authority of the Director-General of UNESCO and the Assistant Director-General for Education, and the supervision of the UIL Governing Board, the
Director provides leadership and steers the overall work of the organization in literacy, non-formal education, adult education and lifelong learning.
Responsibilities include strengthening links with partners and UNESCO units, general administration of the Institute and extensive resource mobilization.
Qualifications, experience and competencies for this post are described in detail in the vacancy announcement and include especially:
Ph.D. in Education or Social Sciences;
At least 15 years’ experience, including at international level, in research and development, preferably in lifelong learning, adult education, literacy, non-formal education;
Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills in a multicultural environment, and familiarity with administration of an institution accountable to multiple bodies and authorities;
Demonstrated ability to mobilize resources to support institutional development;
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to lead and motivate staff at all levels;
Excellent command of written and spoken English and good knowledge of French. Knowledge of other official UNESCO languages would be an advantage;
Ability to translate strategy into priorities and action, and effectively plan, mobilize and manage resources.
Terms & conditions:
The post is at grade D-2, common to the United Nations system, with base salary and post adjustment, totalling approximately US$168,743 (with dependants) or US$155,021 (without
dependants) per annum, exempt from taxation. In addition UNESCO offers an attractive benefits package.
