Public Information/Public Awareness Consultant

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the PI/PA Snr. Regional Officer, the PI/PA Consultant will:

a) Manage in co-operation with different sections of RO Rome, the contents of UNHCR Italy web-site, including the constant updating, writing, translation and adaptation of material.

b) Elaborate and implement web communication strategies for the enhancing of web-site visibility in order to increase both the number of accesses and the richness of the site.

c)  Draft, product and/or translate updates, press releases, fact sheets, press briefing packages and specialised publications regarding refugee crises.

d)  Assist the PI/PA Snr. Regional PI Officer in responding in a positive and professional manner to media requests as well as develop a relationship of trust with them by giving access to as much information as possible and explaining the activities of UNHCR.
 
e)  Assist the PI/PA Snr. Regional PI Officer through the transmission of information to media and general public.

f)  Assist the PI/PA Unit in implementing PA campaigns and produce PA material for general public and selected targets, such as students, NGOs, etc.

g) Provide support in the organisation of seminars, round tables, conferences, etc., designed for PI/PA purposes or in collaboration with Private Sector and Public Affairs' and Protection Units.

h)    Work on other special projects and relevant duties as required.

Qualifications Required:

•    University Degree in Political Science, communications, journalism, public relations or other related field.
•    At least 5 years of experience in journalism, communications, public relations or related fields. International experience desirable.
•    Familiar with UN system.
•    Fluency in written and spoken English and Italian are essential.

Duration of this assignment and dates: until 31 December 2011

Duty Station: Rome

Remuneration: National Consultant terms and conditions.
